The City of Menifee is located in southwestern Riverside County approximately 30 miles southeast of the City of Riverside, California. The city encompasses approximately 50 square miles and is home to 90,000 people, according to the most recent Census and includes. It is bordered by the City of Perris to the north, Winchester Valley to the east, the City of Murrieta to the south and the City of Canyon Lake to the west.

The Menifee area was originally inhabited by the Luiseno and Pechanga Indian tribes. The area was eventually annexed into the United States from Mexico in 1850 under California’s statehood.
Farming activity beginning in the mid-1800s was concentrated in the Menifee area. Mining activity began in the early 1880s with the discovery of a significant quartz lode by miner Luther Menifee Wilson. Menifee derived its name from that mining operation.
The Menifee area later grew during the late 1980s and into the early 1990s as a master-planned community. In 2008, the city of Menifee was incorporated to form the Riverside County’s 26th city. The incorporated City of Menifee includes the communities of Menifee, Sun City, Quail Valley, Paloma Valley and portions of Romoland.
The city is served by the Menifee Valley Medical Center and nearby Loma Linda University Medical Center in Murrieta. Menifee is also home to the expanding San Jacinto College Menifee Campus. The city has a growing commercial sector anchored by the Menifee Countryside Marketplace power center along the I-215 freeway is considered the fastest growing shopping area in Riverside County.
Menifee is projected to be one of the largest cities in both population and size in Riverside County.
